EMT Training Hawaii


EMTs in Hawaii are constantly in demand, and it’s certainly a smart career path to pursue. There are three levels of EMT certification in Hawaii, and these include EMT-Basic (EMT-B), EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I), and EMT-Paramedic. This is similar to the levels of certification in almost all of the states throughout the country. Unfortunately, there is only one accredited school that offers EMT training in Hawaii, and that school is Kapi’olani Community College. Individuals EMT related courses can be taken at other local schools, but Kapi’olani is the only one that offers the full training program and is accredited. The requirements in order to be eligible to enroll in EMT training in the state of Hawaii are quite straight forward:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must have completed high school or have a GED

Once you’ve completed the program at Kapi’olani Community college, the next step will be to complete the EMT license application. Whether you are applying as an EMT-B, an EMT-I, or a Paramedic, the specified form is the one you’re going to need to fill out. Based on the level you’re applying for, fees will vary.

In order to become an officially certified EMT in Hawaii, you will need to complete the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) Exam, which is a computer based exam. If you pass the exam, the NREMT will pass a record of that along to the state of Hawaii so they can approve your application.

The fact that there is only one EMT training program in Hawaii makes it difficult for those who are certified EMTs in other states, and are moving to Hawaii. In most cases, they will need to fill out additional forms to get things rolling, and those forms can be obtained through here.

Becoming an EMT in Hawaii is a smart career choice, as there are tons of EMT jobs in Hawaii. The pay for various EMT jobs in Hawaii varies, but generally speaking, salaries are roughly around the national average.
