Whether you want to become an EMT-B or a Paramedic in Iowa, you will have to complete EMT training in Iowa to get started. There are 18 authorized EMT training programs in Iowa, and you can view the full list of locations here. The first step is going to be to ensure that you meet the state requirements set by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The requirements are as follow:
- You must be 18 years of age

- You must be mentally/psychically fit
- You must be fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- You must have a high diploma or a GED
- You must have completed CPR certification
If you meet the above requirements, you are permitted to enroll in EMT training in Iowa, and get started towards your dream career. Once you have successfully completed an EMT training course in Iowa, you will have to take the NREMT exam and pass it. If you pass the NREMT exam, you will officially be a certified EMT in Iowa. At that point, you can either start applying for EMT jobs in Iowa, or determine whether you would you like to pursue additional training, in hopes of landing higher level jobs such as paramedic jobs in Iowa.
