An EMT or emergency medical technician plays a very vital role in the community. EMTs are often the first medical response team to provide care to those who are injured or have chronic medical conditions. EMTs specialized training allows them to save lives in extreme situations of life or death.

Once you have applied for the basic courses and are coming to the end of the training period, you will want to begin the process of applying for all the required certifications and licensing. You are going to need a copy of your high school diploma, driver’s license, and you will also need a form to approve a background check as well. There are also a few application fees that will need to be paid as well.

Submit the required documents immediately when you have completed the last of your EMT training. The documents along with the results of the practical skills test or NREMT will need to be sent to the state of Kentucky for verification and processing. There will also be fees for this process. You will need verification of CPR and HIV/AIDS training as well.

The NREMT is the last step before you will become a certified EMT. This is an exam given by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. You must be approved to take the test. You are required to apply for the exam, once you are approved, then you will be given a letter of “authorization to test.”This letter will include all the information required to actually register for the exam. When you complete the exam, the results are sent to the state of Kentucky. After you results are verified, you are officially certified EMT.
