EMT Training Wisconsin


In order to become an EMT in the state of Wisconsin there are several steps that must be taken in order to pass certification. Being certified through the NREMT or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians is not enough to practice as an EMT, though it is recommended to obtain this certification. Candidates must also be licensed and certified through the state as well. You will only be allowed to practice at the EMT level your licenses are held. Candidates must also successfully complete a state approved EMT training course.

EMT candidates must also obtain a license for the service provider. This is a very important step if you wishemt training wisconsin to practice in the state of Wisconsin. It is important that you obtain all licenses and certification required for practicing as an EMT.

Before applying for a license to become an EMT you must have the following criteria for the state of Wisconsin.


  • At the time of application, the candidate must be 18 years of age.
  • An application for licensing must be completed for the provider in which the candidate plans to hold employment. This form can be found on the state EMS service home site.
  • The service director must sign the application for the provider the candidate will hold employment with.
  • Proof of successful completion of a state approved EMT training course with in the last two years is required. If the candidate trained outside of Wisconsin the training course must meet all state requirements to be approved.
  • Candidates must also provide all other required documents along with a driver’s license and a criminal background check.
  • Applicants may not have criminal convictions that obtain to emergency services duties.
  • Candidates must also have current certification in CPR. Applicants must provide documentation.
